hey...never say goodbye

Off late its only movie reviews that I'm blogging I guess... just a plain way of updating one's blog when time runs short for some serious blogging...
But that we hit the theatre for KANK on the day of its release here in UK, is a bloggable event I guess, given the extend of anticipation about the movie...
I've always enjoyed Karan Johar's movies, fully accepting them as 3 1/2 hours saga of time pass.... KANK in that regard was surprisingly different...
Though it had all the commercial requirements mixed into it in king size proportions, the questions asked and the statements made are crystal clear...
Yes, KANK deals with relationships, points to how delicate they are and how important and difficult it is to make someone feel loved... It's not enough if you love someone, it's equally important to make them feel loved....or life might just never be the same again...
I too always beleived that if you don't look for it, you will never find love.... but KANK poses a question which is unanswerable, for sometimes in life things just cant be based on probabilities... KANK is surprisingly real in the way it deals with relationships and their complexities and very contemporary in the solution evolved ultimately...
KANK might not be the love wins all type of movie, it might not be in tunes with the Indian culture, not holding enough Indian values, might even be said to be slightly immoral.. but then it is only because KANK asks those questions that you never ask yourself...that when values and principles come against the very existence of your life what are your choices?? Love can essentially break relationships... life may not always be based on sacrifices... you might not be able to stop yourself from being selfish at times... each of us might do a wrong even when we know it...we could be pushed to a path of no return by a stroke of destiny...life might change when we least expect it....KANK reflects reality to a very large extend and tries to do justice to that reality event hough it has a generous mixture of commercial ideas added to it.
As for the movie, we felt that BigB was under used and where he was used he was a bit too over used, Preity doesn't have too much to do but whatever she has to, she has managed to do fine, Rani is beautiful as Maya, but as always the overall weight of the movie was to be carried by SRK and as he is does that job with perfection... SRK has given yet another splendid performance as the disturbed, very hatable DevSaran. If someone has done a better job than SRK, it can only be Karan Johar. The cinematography is marvellous particularly in the song 'mitwa', though beautifully crafted the story lacks luster while depicting the rift in Maya's marriage, the movie reminds of 'closer'a couple of times, but it does have a huge share of originality. All in all a well made movie. Whether or not commercialy accepted, the makers of KANK has to be appreciated for their bold portrayel of modern Indian youth and their concepts of the institution of marriage.
Reviewing KANK for my friends at States, Australia and India who said they couldn't find enough post release info....
Hope you march to the theatre to watch the most talked about hidi movie of the year...catch you later...and...ya
kabhi alvida na kehna.....

Yup...as Car says...its the first positive review I have read.... I have already seen the movie and must say ,enjoyed it....I think what I also liked is that the movie is that its non judgemental...it does not tell you whose fault it is...Bcoz when relationships break its usually nobody's fault and everybody's fault..at the same time.
